The history of Volt hockey / electric hockey
The sale of a silver tikron, issued on the occasion of Crown Prince Frederik’s 18th birthday, had a significant impact on the development of electric hockey, as the sale made a profit.
In 1988, Minister of Industry Niels Vilhjelm announced a design competition, which the architect Mogens Holm Rasmussen won, and the electric sports wheelchair became a reality. The first club was established in Skive in 1989.
Since then, the sport has spread to Sweden, Norway, Germany, the USA and Canada. Since the start of electric hockey, the Crown Prince, together with IMMO A/S, has played a major role in the spread of the sport to, among others, the USA & Canada.
